- soft potatoes
- soft carrots
- broth that has a thick gravy like texture
- tender, break apart at the touch of a fork beef
- Some sort of bread and butter to go with it.
(Sometimes, a girl just needs to eat like a man.)
-XOXO,
P.S. In no way should this be considered an all inclusive list; these are merely what I consider to be the most important elements of beef stew.
P.P.S. But I totally and completely hands down prefer chili, (with beans) anyway.
P.P.P.S. But The fall weather really does feel beef stew-ish.
P.P.P.P.S. But again, if you ask me, chili is season-less; it's an any season bit of heartiness...So I guess the chili wins this one...

I would prefer chili too (maybe cause I can always top it with cheese??)
But fun times to ponder beef stew today!
Yes, the cheese makes all the difference.
Michelle, I'm surprised that with all this talk about chili you never mentioned corn bread. I had no idea that you would so quickly turn on your corn bread for just any old bread with butter.
Like anyone could ever know that.
Any old bread and butter, Derek? No, I believe I said "SOME FORM of bread and butter," including but not limited to cornbread. The post is about stew, and I'm much less picky about the bread that goes with strew. Corn bread is for sure the bread choice of chili, though; hands down.
Mmmmmm.....Yummy
